ndrosenDeleting political spam emails from both Democrats and Trumpublicans is getting to be a full-time job. A few days ago, I received an email from Erika Kirk, referring to the evildoers who had murdered her husband. Evildoers, plural? So far as I am aware, one young man acted alone to assassinate Charlie Kirk; is his widow or are her associates trying to create the impression that the left in general, or all Americans who have problems with Trump, are culpable?
Likewise, there was an email from Adam Schiff, who at least has the merit of being loathed by Dishonest Donald, saying that he had introduced a constitutional amendment to overturn the Citizens United decision, and urging me to sign on as a “citizen cosponsor.” I did not do so, as I believe that the Supreme Court decided the case rightly. The issue was whether a movie about Hillary Clinton made by a non-profit corporation, Citizens United, could be regulated as a political donation to her opponents. A lawyer for the government admitted that this could also apply to a book.
So excuse me, Senator Schiff, but have you paused to consider what the Trump administration could do if the decision were overturned? An article about Trump’s policy errors and known or suspected crimes could be treated as an illegal campaign contribution to the opposition, as could a comedy routine by someone like Jimmy Kimmel, or simply a truthful report on the news of the day. Is that the America you want to live in?
