SmartHome

Sep. 15th, 2023 02:59 am
Thursday, while I was at work, workmen came to my apartment to replace the old-fashioned lock with an electronic lock, requiring me to remember another six digit number, and also installed other stuff, turning my apartment into a SmartHome. When I got back after working late, I found the new installations; fortunately, I was able to access my WiFi and download my emails from outside the apartment, so I was able to learn the code, and use it let myself in.

The dishwasher seems to have been replaced, and the plates, bowls, flatware, and so on I had left therein had been rearranged haphazardly. I wanted the stuff clean, so I ran the dishwasher again, and meanwhile reheated the last of the black bean chili with guacamole, which I ate out of the one bowl which had not been in the dishwasher. I made a small salad without leaves, and ate it off of a small plate.

The dishwasher has finished, so I was able to take out some clean dishes, and put the things from dinner in the washer. I have slept, and now I’ll take a shower and sleep some more. I have an appointment with the optometrist for Friday morning.

New Phone

Today I took my new smartphone (to replace the old flip phone) to a Boost Mobile dealership over a mile from where I live; the lady there performed extensive rituals to drive out the unclean spirits infesting it, and replaced the SIM card. This cost me money, some of it spent on a case for the smartphone, but at least I can now make and receive phone calls on my new 5G mobile phone. I’ll worry about apps and stuff later.

New Phone

I made do without a cellphone after many people had them; I remember some salesman calling me at my landline phone to try to get me to sign up; he said that in today’s world, a cellphone is a necessity, to which I replied that I didn’t find one necessary, and hung up. I finally did buy a cellphone, and have had it for many years, still the old flip phone which I bought in Walmart.

3G phones are no longer going to be supported, so I finally broke down, talked with someone at Boost Mobile, and then ordered a new smartphone online. Once it arrives, I’ll have to configure it, and pay a monthly fee, another drain on the budget, but I will have a more advanced device.

Email Fixed

I had been able to receive email with my new iPadAir, but not to send it. Now, however, the problem is solved, thanks to my friend and computer wizardess Katrina Knight, known as kk1raven on Dreamwidth. If you have computer problems, I recommend her; she makes a living doing this kind of thing, whether remotely or for people in and near Reading, Pennsylvania.
My elderly iPadAir has basically died on me, so I bought a replacement at Best Buy yesterday. I have not fully figured out how to use it, and don’t yet have email, so please be patient if I am late in responding to something, or otherwise not behaving as usual.
