My New Boss

Well, sort of my boss; he's several layers above my immediate supervisor, but neither President of the United States nor the Constitution. He is Wilbur Ross, the new Secretary of Commerce, and this morning, I tuned in while he gave a speech in DoC headquarters. He spoke of our mission, said that trade should be both free and "fair" (generally a codeword for unfair restrictions), and said that since NAFTA, American manufacturing jobs had fallen by one quarter. Someone ought to tell him about the post hoc, propter hoc fallacy.

He also said that employees should do their jobs ethically, and show up for meetings on time. He would rather read a concise memo than a big binder full of repetition. He's willing to listen to dissent at meetings, but once a decision has been made, people should close ranks unanimously.

I'm not likely to interact with him directly; I'll go about my job pretty much whoever the political appointee at the top is.
