Blossoms

There are some magnolia trees in full bloom; cherry trees are mixed. Peak cherry blossom time was expected to be mid-March, but then we got snow and freezing rain. Some cherry trees near the Pentagon City Metro have no blossoms, and I fear that they won't have any this year. Elsewhere, I have seen some trees with flowers, and others without; it may depend on local microclimate, and on the particulars of the tree. There are a number of cherry trees near where I live, and I remember masses of blossoms from previous years. Today, I made a point of walking a block or so South, and spotted some sakura, but not an enormous display. Instead, there might be some flowers on one branch, but not on another.

Cherry blossoms are famously transient, and we may yet see some more, or may need to wait until next year.

Each year has its own idiosyncrasies [not even counting the weather-crazies]. One year, the redbud stayed 6 full weeks, others it's only 3-4. Last year, wisteria was faded & sparse, this year it's ubiquitous. I hope you get to see and enjoy lots of lovely flowers.
