Taxes and Golf Course
Mar. 11th, 2018 01:10 pmOn Friday, I filed my state and federal income tax returns.
On Saturday, I emailed a letter to Virginia's Governor Northam. According to what I have read, the Virginia legislature passed a bill to give special property tax breaks to two golf courses in my community of Arlington, and I asked Governor Northam to veto the bill. I didn't get into hard-core Georgism, but I pointed out that the golf courses were already paying taxes at a lower rate per acre than homeowners and merchants in the built-up areas of Arlington, and did not have much in the way of buildings to tax, so there was no reason to give them special favors, and force Arlington County to either cut government services or raise tax rates on the homeowners of Arlington.
I hope the message wasn't too late. I hope he'll listen to what I say.
