Frederick Douglass Bicentenary

If you don't already read Reason online, check this out: Frederick Douglass was born in February of 1818 (the exact day is unknown), and Damon Root has a piece saying that the great man should be remembered for his classical liberal thought, as well as for his inspiring biography.

I largely agree, except that Root quotes Douglass saying that the soil should be owned. If I had a time machine, I'd like to go debate the formidably eloquent Douglass about that, and argue for a distinction between what labor creates, and land that no human labor can create.

Well, some land can be created, as in the artificial islands in the Aztec capital or enriched, as in the black dirt created in South America.

Even that is not strictly speaking creation of land in the sense used by .Georgist political economy. The Aztecs couldn't and didn't create new locations n their lake, only improve existing locations.
