I planned to celebrate Henry George Day by scratching a scratch-off lottery ticket, and possibly winning big money to contribute to a worthy cause. I put $40 (two twenties) into a Virginia lottery ticket machine in advance of September 2nd, and selected a $30 ticket; then, discovering that the machine did not make change, I selected a $10 ticket. The ticket I wanted turned out to be blank, but the second ticket had actual prizes, and when I went to the supermarket the Saturday after Henry George’s birthday, I received two hundred dollars for it. That’s a $160 gain, which I plan to split between two Georgist organizations.

I am not habitual gambler, but I celebrate folly, and usually do a little bit to fund the government of the Commonwealth of Virginia, by buying Virginia lottery tickets twice a year, for April Fool’s Day, and Henry George Day.
