Reckless Spending

There was an article in Reason reminding us that the real scandal in Washington is reckless spending. The national debt keeps growing, and neither major party is attempting to exercise fiscal responsibility, for which the politicians are not entirely to blame: giving people “free” stuff and tax cuts wins elections, whereas running on a platform of fiscal prudence does not.

What will we tell our children?

Sad but true. Both parties are for fiscal responsibility when the other one is in power. However, as you note, no one ever won an election on a platform of "we're going to cut services and raise taxes."
