There's some good news, according to an an item in Reason: a teenager facing child pornography charges will not spend years in prison. Austin Yabandith's crime was to have naked pictures of his girlfriend, which she had sent him, on his smartphone. He hadn't shared them with other boys, just possessed them.

I contributed to his legal defense fund a few months ago, and I'm glad that the situation isn't as bad as it might have been. The trouble is, there are laws written with adult creeps who molest six year olds in mind, and they apply to teenagers with hormones who accept cellphone pictures of other teens.
