Lee was removed from its place in Richmond, some right wingers warned and grumbled that statues of the Founding Fathers would be next; some leftists enthusiastically agreed, and a statue of Thomas Jefferson has now been slated for removal from an honored position in New York City. Mona Charen eloquently explains why one of these slaveowners, despite his faults, is worthy of honored remembrance, and the other is not.
