A Few Nice Things

Wednesday morning, I discarded my much-used razor blade, and shaved with a new one, making the shave quick and easy, without drag between the blade and my skin.
One my evening walk, I saw the full moon. An evening or two earlier, I managed to see a few stars. I’d like to take a vacation somewhere without much light pollution, and look up at night to really see the stars.
And the Kickstarter to finance production of an audiobook of Jo Walton’s Lifelode has come to a successful conclusion, thanks in part to my chipping in.

Date: 2021-10-30 04:46 pm (UTC)I remember one time, it was either '07 or '08, there was a sky party at White Sands that we went to. You parked then walked through the dunes a hundred yards or two. New moon. And when you got to where the telescopes were, the sky was simply indescribable. By that time, your eyes were fully acclimated, and the seeing was just incredible! You didn't need a telescope to enjoy things.
The telescope does open for public tours occasionally but is otherwise closed as it is not ADA-compatible, so the tours have to be guided to ensure reasonable safety. They're usually held in the summer during the full moon, and they'll mount an eyepiece on my wife's telescope! It's very cool.
