Sock-Eating Machines

When I was folding my laundry Sunday night, I found one sock missing, leaving a single dark blue sock without a partner. Monday morning, I retraced my steps, did not find a sock in the stairwell, did not find it in the dryer I had used, or in the washer.

I think the laundry machines eat socks now and then, or perhaps missing socks are transported through some kind of interdimensional gate.

said gate, or rather the dimension behind it, sometimes acts as a storage capacitor. that's why you either have zillions of pens, or none at all.
