The Lies Were Always the Point

Dahlia Lithwick has an article in Slate saying that Trump’s lies were the point, just as his administration’s cruelty was the point. It could almost be one of George Orwell’s astringent essays.

While I’m posting, I’ll say that not all is bad in the world; I have been seeing crepe myrtle flowers in several colors around the neighborhood.

The problem with the article is that it actually doesn't explain anything. "The lies are the point." Why? Millions of people lying just to troll the rest of us? Doesn't loop into "and this is how they hold onto power." Possibly that is so, but author doesn't actually show it anywhere.
