ndrosenH.L. Mencken described America as having produced a single wit, Ambrose Bierce. Today’s news reminded me of the bitter lexicographer’s definition of “friendless”: “Having no favors to bestow. Destitute of fortune. Addicted to the utterance of truth and common sense.”
I do not know whether Liz Cheney has no favors to bestow, and I doubt that she is destitute, but she has recently become addicted to the utterance of truth and common sense, whether out of sincere conviction or long term political strategy, a habit intolerable to the Trumpublicans.
