On Sunday, the Washington Post printed a column by George F. Will proposing Senator Chris Coons, Democrat of Delaware, for Secretary of State in the prospective Biden administration.
Chris Coons is one of my fellow class of 1985 Amherst College alumni, and I knew him slightly when we were in Amherst College Republicans together, before a trip to Africa led to his turning left and becoming a Democrat; I remember reading his article in the college paper explaining his change of views. We could probably have a much worse Secretary of State: Mike Pompeo, for example. I don’t know whether Biden will win, whether Biden will follow Will’s suggestion, or whether Coons would choose to be Secretary of State instead of a senator, but we can watch how things develop.
