The Defeat of Jeff Sessions
Jul. 16th, 2020 02:23 amNot only does Jefferson Beauregard Sessions hold views quite different from mine, he has a record of unsavory behavior, from (unsuccessfully) prosecuting blacks who were helping other blacks vote, to calumnating the victims of civil forfeiture. In a better world, his political career would be over because voters had rejected him in favor of a better man with better ideas.
In the America of 2020, he has lost his chance to regain his Senate seat because as Attorney General, he recused himself from an investigation into his boss, displaying a streak of integrity which his opponents ought to acknowledge. The Republican primary voters of Alabama have rewarded his decency and commitment to the rule of law by giving their nomination to a more shameless Trump suck-up.
Meanwhile, the current president has found a more satisfactory Attorney General, who seems to see no space between his duties as a public official and his obsequious support of the man currently polluting the White House by his unworthy presence.
