Summer Fruit
Jul. 14th, 2020 11:15 pmLast weekend at the farmers’ market, I bought a quart of Shiro plums, which aren’t bad at all. I’m looking forward to Methley plums later in the season, and this week, when I don’t have plums as the fruit component of my lunch, I can have a slab or watermelon, from a melon I bought at the supermarket.
This is also the season for fresh basil, and for Middle Eastern squash, which go well together in a pesto dish.
The time will come for fresh cider, crisp apples, pumpkin, and cranberries, as well as for borsch made from root vegetables.
