Possible Political Evolution
Nov. 17th, 2018 06:45 pmI remember something which Charles Murray wrote some years ago, maybe decades ago: that he was concerned about the United States becoming a highly unequal society like some countries in South America, where being a conservative means being on the side of the oligarchs in the mansions overlooking the slums, and being a man of the left means wanting the state to nationalize or control all private wealth and enterprise, and all the institutions of civil society.
We’re not there yet, but with most of the Republican Party falling in line behind Dishonest Donald, while celebrated figures of the opposition include such people as Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, I can see our politics and society devolving in that direction.
And then there’s the ballooning national debt to worry about.
