Slate had an article by Professor Austin Sarat about US attorneys and the Justice Department the other day, and I recognized the name; he’s still a professor at Amherst College.
I never took any courses with him when I was a student there (1981-1985), but I do remember his after-dinner speech at a dinner for (I think) the freshman class; he was sprightly, and both humorous and serious. In particular, I remember that he asked us how many of us had close relationships with our assigned faculty advisors. My hand went up, and no one else’s did.
