Someone in my Dreamwidth network linked to this, so now I’ll link to it: https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/166520v9, an article by Professor Andrey Vyshedskiy on “Language Evolution to Revolution.” This combines psychology, genetics, linguistics, and paleoanthropology; I don’t know whether Professor Vyshedskiy is correct or not, but he surely is clever, and his idea is not merely a just-so story, for in proper scientific fashion, he lists several ways in which it could be falsified.
