Georgist Conference in Pittsburgh,Part Nineteen

To return to the evening of Wednesday, July 24, 2019, we held the Board meeting of the Henry George Institute, trying to get back up to speed after Lindy Davies’s death, and continue our work of doing Georgist education, and publishing several issues of the Georgist Journal. Then we held a membership meeting, trying to attract renewing or new members, who will chip in a few dollars for dues, and elect future Board members. These meetings were not strictly speaking part of the Georgist Conference, but the conference was the optimal place to have them.

I went to law school in Pittsburgh / the area has a lot of nice parks. ☺️ Schenley (sp?) park is relatively close to both CMU and Pitt, since they are next to each other.

Squirrel Hill I remember too. A few nice restaurants.

Univ of Pittsburgh Dental school provides dental services for low income individuals. I don’t exactly know the procedure or how to obtain treatment, but a friend of mine needed an extraction and implant and could not afford to pay for it. I contacted the dental school, got an appointment time, and drove my friend to Pittsburgh in hopes the school would be able to help my friend.

Because I love efficient road trips, I also used that to pack in a talk at my former law school, open to all years (1L to 3L). The students liked my talk, the administration probably not so much 🙄 as the purpose of my talk was to give these students a chance to learn what it’s like on the outside, and job searching. Basically, honesty that most career services don’t provide, or that I’ve never seen. And something these students (really any students) need or at least should hear and use that to make more informed decisions.
