“The Simpsons” Was Prophetic

ndrosenMany years ago, when I watched television, I saw the Simpsons episode where an adult Lisa Simpson took office as President of the United States, and had to clean up the mess left by President Donald Trump, who had left the country deeply in debt. Her brother Bart was still an irresponsible brat.
Not only has the country in fact been saddled with President Trump, but he and Congress have been acting to greatly increase the national debt; after passing the largest spending bill in history, two trillion dollars, both our king-of-debt President and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi speak of plans to stimulate the economy and address various ills by spending another trillion or two. Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden also wants to expand government spending. People used to speak of life imitating The Onion; life is now imitating an episode of a barbed humor program which turned out to be a dream sequence anyway.
What we lack is a Lisa Simpson candidacy; instead, chronological adults on both sides of aisle are imitating her brother Bart, without the excuse of being ten years old.
