It was a lovely spring day, shirtsleeves weather until evening, and if the cherry blossoms are mostly a memory, other trees are now flowering (crepe myrtles, I think).

Earlier today, I heard chanting in a foreign language at a distance, then the religious procession approached down Columbia Pike: There were two UHaul pickup trucks, with a couple of gorgeously robed men in each, Ethiopian, I think. They were chanting, and one of them was swinging a thurible, giving off clouds of incense. Perhaps the Ethiopian Church celebrates Easter a week earlier than the Western churches, or perhaps this is what they do a week before. Anyway, it added a bit of color and beauty to the day, and I’m glad that Ethiopians who suffered poverty and sometimes persecution at home have found refuge here, and made contributions to our country.
