John M. Ford

I have read some of the late John M. Ford’s stories and such, and I met the man himself at Boskone back in early 1997. It is a sad loss that his estranged family kept his works from being reprinted after his death at too young an age (at least, that’s what I had read happened), and I was glad to read an article in Slate about him, with the good news that his works will be reprinted. I’m looking forward to reading Growing up Weightless and other books.

At this point, it's not clear whether his family kept his books out of print. It may have been Murphy's fault. Ford's agent fell out of communication, and it's possible his family gave up rather than actively blocking.

I agree, it isn’t entirely clear, which is why I wrote, “at least, that’s what I had read happened”. With different statements by different people, I’m not going to undertake to sift all of the evidence and make a pronouncement of my own.
