I was teleworking Monday, so I was able to take a break, and go to the sidewalk in front of the apartment building around three o’clock; I didn’t have special dark glasses with which to view the eclipse, but had punched pinholes in a sheet of paper, enabling me to view images of the sun on a calendar which I also brought along. Only a rather small crescent was not occluded by the moon.

A child saw me, and offered to sell me eclipse glasses for five dollars, so I made the purchase. I walked back and forth, and periodically looked at the sun through some very dark glasses. I have the satisfaction of having seen an eclipse, and a pair of dark glasses to use on some future occasion.

There was an eclipse in Pennsylvania when I was in elementary school, which I vaguely remember, but it wasn’t very exciting. The day just turned dim for a while.
