My Weekend in New York City
Jun. 9th, 2018 10:51 pmI’ve been attending the Membership meeting and Board meeting of the Robert Schalkenbach Foundation, where we hashed out various points and passed a budget. Then we went out to dine at Gente Ristorante Italiano, where our president, Gib Halverson, spoke, and then a Board member who chose not to seek re-election, Erich Jacoby-Hawkins, made a speech.
Mr. Halverson called on me for the toast I usually give at Georgist conventions: “To those who, seeing the vice and misery that spring from the unequal distribution of wealth and privilege, feel the possibility of a higher social state, and would strive for its attainment.” That’s the dedication of Progress and Poverty.
Then Wyn Achenbaum gave a long series of traditional toasts, and I touched the glass of Montepulciano to my lips with each one.
