Martin Luther King
Apr. 6th, 2018 01:52 amTwo days ago marked the fiftieth anniversary of Dr. King's assassination, which would have happened when I was three years old. I have memories, not directly of hearing about it, but of its aftermath. As I recall, there was a cover of Newsweek, or maybe television coverage of the riots, and I remember asking my mother what was going on. I think I asked whether he, this man who had been murdered, was black or white; she answered that he was a black who had tried to help other blacks.
Do I really remember from when I was that young?
Anyway, whether or not one agrees with all of Dr. Martin Luther King's views, or approves of all his personal behavior, he resisted real injustices, and did so nonviolently; this deserves to be remembered.
