The Colour of Magic
Feb. 18th, 2017 01:45 amI donated blood Friday morning, and the phlebotomist asked me which color of band I wanted to keep the gauze in place on my arm.
"Octarine," I answered, pronouncing it to rhyme with "pine" as at least some British would.
He didn't get it, alas, but I explained that I had made a literary allusion to the late Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels, where octarine is the eighth color, the color of magic.
My yellow self-sticking tape proved satisfactory enough.
