Corey Stewart, the Minnesota-born Virginia politician who is big on Confederate heritage, and boasts of having been Trump before Trump was Trump, sent me a mailing recently. Having failed to obtain the Republican gubernatorial nomination, he now plans to run against Senator Tim Kaine, and wants me to contribute. I invested a stamp in replying, and sent a note that in my first national election, I had voted to re-elect Reagan, and that Reagan had said that he did not leave the Democratic Party; it left him.

I wrote that if the Republican Party completed its degeneration into the party of Trump, Bannon, and Stewart, it would have left me.
