A Fundraising Call
Feb. 24th, 2022 02:37 amI received a call Wednesday from an elderly man (judging from his voice) asking me to donate to help re-elect Ron Johnson, a Trumpublican Senator. I declined to do so. In the course of our conversation, I mentioned that, decades earlier, I had made myself unpopular at college by being more or less a Reagan Republican, but that I did not support the Personality Cult of Dishonest Donald, formerly known as the Party of Lincoln. My interlocutor said that he regarded Trump as the best president we’ve ever had.
I did not attempt to argue with him about that. It occurs to me, though, that to believe such a thing, the man would not only have had to have a political outlook very different from mine, but probably also had very different sources of “news.”
