I support the right to keep and bear arms guaranteed by the Second Amendment: partly because it’s part of the Constitution that I am under oath to uphold; partly because I believe that the law-abiding should be able to defend themselves against criminals, who will not obey gun control laws; partly because enforcement of gun control tends to be selective, with, for example, wealthy big shots who are not very likely to be assaulted being given licenses, while ordinary folks in rougher neighborhoods are denied permission; and partly for other reasons yet.
There is an article in Reason making the case for weapons in public hands as a defense against tyrannical and outright genocidal governments. You don’t have to have full confidence that armed civilians will be willing and able to fight and defeat government thugs to see merit in the argument.
