You may well be right, although one may point out that the current occupant of the White House has accumulated more debt (following in the footsteps of his predecessors, but exceeding even their accomplishments). When I wrote about “mismanag[ing] their domestic and fiscal affairs,” I did have in mind that the debt burden would erode our ability to deter or if need be fight China and other revisionist powers.

As I said, I greatly hope not to be a prophet.
