Urban Wildlife
May. 21st, 2023 09:13 pmI live in a mostly built-up area, although there is the Army-Navy Country Club to the south (fenced off, so I couldn’t just wander onto the gold course). I was taking a stroll this evening, on the very street where I live, when I heard some noises, and looked across the street, where there is a strip of trees and undergrowth; someone or something was pushing its way through the undergrowth. At first, I thought it was a large dog, and then I realized that it was a deer. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a deer up close, and certainly not in this town.
The deer crossed to my side of the street, and went on about his business. I hope he finds things to eat without unduly distressing the local gardeners. I wonder whether he’s a long-term resident, or has wandered in from a more bucolic region.
