I have had my criticisms of President Biden and his administration, but I note with appreciation that the U.S. has barred silicon imports from Hoshine Silicon, a Chinese company with factories in Xinjiang linked to forced labor imposed on Uyghurs and other minorities.
The Trump administration would not likely have done this, although Trump might have imposed tariffs in the belief that doing so would create American jobs. Donald Trump is incapable of understanding what is good about the country he promised to make great again, and would not have offended the Chinese government and created problems for American industry out of concern for the freedom and well being of a Muslim minority on the other side of the world.
However imperfectly it has acted, and whatever its own sins, the United States at its best has been a friend to freedom abroad, and has made sacrifices of its immediate self-interest to resist totalitarianism and aid foreigners who wished to live as free human beings. America is back.
