For my dessert Sunday night, I ate half of a Madecasse dark chocolate bar, made in Madagascar. It was wonderful, with a fruity flavor to the chocolate. There may be better vocabulary to describe this food of the gods, but I don’t know it. If you have a few dollars to spare for gastronomy, and want to support the chocolate growers and a manufacturer in a very poor country, here’s a way to treat yourself, and, I hope, help other people.

A month or so ago, I ordered some books from Barnes & Noble. The box was supposedly delivered in early December, but I never saw it. We have locked boxes and a secure room to make things harder for porch pirates, but anyway. I managed to get through to B&N’s customer service, and the gentleman told me that they would re-send the books free of charge; I now have one, and I hope the others will arrive. My relatives should receive holiday presents, even if belatedly. Good on Barnes and Noble.
The idea is to post a list of five or more famous people whom you’ve met, or at least been within a few feet of, but including one whom you have not met. People can have fun guessing the ringer. Here’s my list:

John Archibald Wheeler, physicist.
Connie Willis, author.
Roger Penrose, mathematical physicist.
Larry Niven, author.
Bill Clements, businessman and politician, Governor of Texas.
John M. Ford, author.

Feel free to leave comments, and to try this meme yourself.

My answer will in due course be revealed.
