A Bit of Paranoia
Aug. 11th, 2019 09:43 pmTrump has retweeted a conspiracy theory that the Clintons are to blame for having Jeffrey Epstein murdered in jail, as opposed to his committing suicide. Hmm.
The Bureau of Prisons isn’t currently run by a Clinton appointee, or even an Obama appointee, but aside from that, I remember reading a column in the Washington Post a little while back inquiring as to why Dishonest Donald had just tweeted insults to Congresswoman Omar, and the rest of the Squad. The columnist’s suggestion was that he was not merely engaging in his usual rudeness, or efforts to fire up his base, but was attempting to distract people while something else hit the news, and what else? Perhaps that Trump himself (who, like Bill Clinton, had associated with Epstein) had engaged in sexual abuse of underaged girls. It did seem to be a possibility, but then again, Trump wouldn’t need any special reason to tweet insults about his opponents.
And now Jeffrey Epstein has joined the class of men who tell no tales. This doesn’t prove that Trump or his people had Epstein murdered, or even issued instructions to have him taken off suicide watch, and not have the overworked guards bother to check up on him too often, but that is one possibility. And of course it would be quite Trumpian for Donald to project his own misdeeds on Mrs. Clinton, or on someone.
I don’t insist that this conspiracy theory need be true, or that a man must be guilty of a particular crime just because he is clearly enough of a scoundrel to have committed it, but I do not see see how the possibility can be excluded. It does fit the available facts disturbingly well.
