Remembering William F. Buckley, Jr.
Aug. 6th, 2019 08:57 pmI remember an article on Sixty Minutes many years ago, profiling William F. Buckley. Buckley said, among other things, that liberals tended to see Hitler as the arch-conservative; he believed that in the event of an internal threat to the United States from someone like Hitler, there would be considerable conservative opposition.
With all of his faults, Donald Trump is not at Hitler’s level of wickedness, but he is a nasty character who has expressed contempt for the provisions of the Constitution that restrain him. Some conservatives certainly have continued to oppose him, but the great majority of the Republicans in Congress and the party apparatus have truckled to him.
I wonder what Buckley would say about this now.
