Criminal Contempt

ndrosenThe House of Representatives is seeking criminal contempt charges against my antepenultimate boss* and the Attorney General; of the two, I have an even dimmer view of William Barr than of Wilbur Ross. There is a certain entertainment value in politics these days; it tends to fall into the late William Tenn’s special subgenre of horror-farce.
I wish we had a President like Calvin Coolidge or Grover Cleveland to make politics boring again; the notion goes back at least to the Tao Te Ching that it is best if people scarcely know who their rulers are, or have any need to. No doubt if one were actually living through the Cleveland or Coolidge administrations, and followed the news, there would have been controversies and scandals which are largely forgotten now, but at least there would have been relatively decent, frugal, and competent adults in the White House, who were not Mafia dons or hate mongers, and did try to attend to genuine national issues without letting the country spend itself into bankruptcy.
