An Accused Congressman

I remember a scene from Lois McMaster Bujold’s Cryoburn where Miles Vorkosigan is trying to look like a grifter, acting out of greed and vengefulness, in order to get some crooked businesspeople to make him an offer and reveal just what they’re up to. He does pretend to be loyal to his own immediate family, and does not respond to the friendliness of an attractive and short brunette he’s been paired with, deciding that it wouldn’t be plausible to appear to be every kind of corrupt.
If Miles had read about this patriotic American and Congressweasel of the Party of Family Values, he might have revised his estimate of what was too corrupt in too many ways to be believable. You cannot make this stuff up.
