Trump and the Troops
Nov. 21st, 2018 01:02 amFor those who have not yet met their RDA of contempt for the Cheetoh, Fred Kaplan has a piece in Slate about why he thinks Trump avoided getting at all wet to visit an American cemetery in France, and why he wasn’t at Arlington National Cemetery for Veterans’ Day.
One can’t be sure about this kind of psychologizing, but it seems to make sense. Lazy Donald not only does not want to put himself to the least discomfort or physical exertion, but, while he appreciates military pageantry and being in command of powerful forces (Heaven help the country), he does not appreciate the military ethos of service and sacrifice. From his perspective, those who suffer and die for their country are losers.
This may or may not be entirely fair, but there’s no escaping that the current inhabitant of the White House has so conducted himself as to make it plausible.
