HGI Membership Meeting
Oct. 19th, 2023 10:50 pmBack on Saturday, we held the Henry George Institute’s annual membership meeting, via Zoom. Someone mentioned that we may be the only active Georgist organization trying to teach Georgism to the public. Someone else (unless it was the same someone) said that with so few people knowing what George’s ideas are, we’re like Chesty Puller in the Korean War: “We’re outnumbered twenty to one. The enemy is in front of us, behind us, and on both sides of us. There’s no way they can get away from us now.”
Less humorously, Ed Dodson, who teaches Georgist classes, said that people are getting less and less willing to read serious books like Progress and Poverty, and do the homework. Devices like the one I’m using to type this may be to blame for shortened attention spans.
