The estimable anti-Trump conservative George F. Will had a column in the Washington Post Thursday, saying that Biden and Harris should not be Democratic candidates in 2024. He noted Biden’s false statement (evidently a matter of confusion rather than dishonesty) that his student loan forgiveness program had been passed by Congress, and that he had signed the bill into law. He may well have suffered further cognitive decline by 2028, when he will be 86 years old.

Mr. Will also quoted some incoherent blather from VP Harris as evidence of her intellectual unfitness for high government responsibilities. My own thought is that she was smart enough to get through law school, so she isn’t as stupid as she sometimes sounds, and that a great many people fail to extemporize incisively, or to speak in grammatical, literary English. Not that Kamala Harris is all that bright, but a better case against her, dating from 2019, is that she is an authoritarian bully, and ethically challenged.

I definitely agree with Mr. Will about one thing: we need better Democratic candidates, because the next Republican candidate for President, whether Trump or someone else, will be entirely unworthy of sitting at the Resolute desk.
