Nietzsche Family Circus

You may be familiar with that inane comic strip, The Family Circus. Its single circle drawings make an interesting pairing with quotations from Friedrich Nietzsche.

Passing on a Joke

The government of Finland responded to the pandemic by mandating two meters of social distance. Once enough of the population had been vaccinated, the mandate was canceled, so Finns have now returned to a more natural three or four meters of social distance.

Style Invitational

I need to get to bed soon; I stayed at the office late, and have set my alarm clock late, but first:

About a month ago, I submitted entries to the Washington Post Style Invitational, that week’s contest being to propose people for government positions, with reasons. The best answers were printed this weekend, and I didn’t even make Honorable Mention; other people had wittier ideas than mine. I still think that my three suggestions are worth sharing:

Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf for White House Communication Director, because he would fit right in.

Marcel Marceau for Presidential Press Secretary, to spare us further embarrassment.

Piper Kerman for U.S. Trade Representative, because unlike some people in the Trump Administration, she has demonstrated that she doesn’t believe that imports necessarily harm the country.
