Fusionism

Stephanie Slade had a good article in Reason magazine this week, “Is There a Future for Fusionism?” referring to the alliance and overlap between traditional values conservatives and economic libertarians, which existed, despite some strains, while the Soviet Union did, and for some time thereafter. Now, neither the Trumpublicans nor the Democrats have much use for libertarians, and some nationalist conservatives fantasize about a confessional state, perhaps a monarchy.

Miss Slade, a serious Catholic who is also a libertarian, holds different views, and believes in a virtuous and religious life without trusting the state to make its citizens virtuous.

The Red Queen’s Race

This week, I got one amendment (not on a case of my own, but inherited from an examiner on assignment elsewhere), and finished Office Actions on two of my existing amendments, so I’m now down to two amendments. I also worked on a third, and left a voicemail message for the attorney. I hope that she’ll respond, and that I’ll be able to get credit for finishing the case next week.

I also did a first action on one of my Regular New cases, and began on what I expect will be my oldest Regular New case next biweek.
