A Bitter Anniversary

I remember Trump’s attempted autogolpe on January 6, 2020. Something which I did not imagine on that day was that in four years, his re-election to a non-consecutive second term would be certified, after a plurality of the population voted for him. We should not yet despair of American democracy as a failed experiment, but the time may come when it is shown to be such.

I think I was constantly halfway worried these whole four years that that day was merely his Beer Hall Putsch moment.
