Banned Books Week

Banned Books Week has been in the news lately, together with the injunction to read a banned book, or the advice that if you’re looking for a good book, read one that censor has forbidden. I thought I might mention that one of my favorite books, Henry George’s Progress and Poverty, was for a time placed on the Catholic Church’s Index of Prohibited Books. (I don’t think that Catholics are forbidden to read it now, and some of my Georgist friends are serious Catholics.)

Still, it did have the honor of being banned.
