Work Anniversary

I began my employment at the Patent Office on August 31, 1998, so I have now completed twenty-two years of work, and have only eighteen left. When I started, I don’t think I imagined teleworking (not for myself as a patent examiner; I had read sf about the concept), I didn’t foresee the Covid-19 virus, and I did not expect Donald Trump to be elected President. For good and ill, life cannot all be predicted in advance.

Mother and Children

On Saturday, I replenished my supply of socks at Nordstrom Rack, and got into a long line behind a woman with two small children, Kaya, one week short of five, and Kieran, two. I introduced myself, and chatted with Kaya a bit, and also with the mother, especially after the children’s grandmother took them outside the store (the little boy treated the clothing racks as a jungle gym, understandably at that age).

I don’t usually have much contact with small children, so this was a break in my routine.
