It's been many months since I posted the first and second installments of my account of the Georgist conference in Orlando back in August, but I'll try to get back into the swing of things:

On the morning of Tuesday, August 16, we had Open Mike. Bill Batt suggested a calendar with Georgist cartoons. Archives exist to be mined.

Dr. Fred Foldvary said that "interest on capital" is confusing for non-Georgists. (Henry George classified the returns to the three factors of production as the wages of labor, the interest on capital, and the rent of land.). He said that we should say "capital yield", and reserve interest for borrowed money.

Dr. Herb Barry suggested a constitutional amendment, and if I recall correctly, he had a proposed amendment drawn up. There was the Sixteenth Amendment in 1913.

I spoke, and quibbled with his proposal.

Dave Jassal, with the Green Party of Ontario, spoke of taxing land, not growth.

Dr. Batt again, spoke of the proportion of rent in the economy. Is it increasing? Constant? Does it equilibrate somehow?

Ed Dodson spoke about his exposure to Georgism. He had a summer job in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, when Milton Shapp was governor. There was a city planner from central PA, Al Hayden. Ed wrote to him, and he sent articles; if I'm interpreting my notes correctly, this was in 1972. In 1979, he went to Philadelphia, and got a banking job; he considered going back to graduate school. He saw the Henry George School of Social Science in Philadelphia, and almost turned around, but walked in.

Heather Wetzel spoke about the U.K. Labour Party; there are people there who favor LVT, but see LVT as one way of taxing wealth, not a fundamental thing.

David Wetzel, Heather's husband, spoke about how to explain Georgism to non-academics. He had an Everett Gross story, which I don't remember. The late Everett Gross was a physicist and Georgist; his son ?Damon is alive and active in Georgism.
