I've come down with a cold (and insomnia; I slept for a while, but then the pseudoephedrine that cleared my sinuses woke me up). Betsy DeVos, the Trump cabinet appointee whom I actually like, has been confirmed, but only thanks to VP Pence's tiebreaker vote. An article in Reason, inviting us to drink the delicious tears of the teachers' unions, points out that there was less opposition to Jeff Sessions, whose appalling views on civil forfeiture and other issues should have disqualified him. The Democratic Party shows itself again to be a puppet of the National Educational Association, whose goal is to protect and expand union jobs in government schools, not to educate children.
